Description

The 2019 Eoin MacNeill Lecture was delivered on 27 May 2019 by Anne Gilliland, Associate Dean for Information Studies, Director of Archival Studies and Professor & Director of the Center for Information as Evidence, at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Professor Gilliland examined the conflation of the roles of archivist, historian, storyteller and community member that has come to be identified as a hallmark of community archives. She illustrated how community archives reflect history at a personally meaningful level and how they can be powerful vehicles for demonstrating, explaining and sustaining identity, and, in places that have deep histories of identity politics, contested narratives, or community traumas, how they have the potential to contribute to reconciliation and recovery.
