Description
IMC have re-issued this first volume of a collection of documents from the Ellis manuscripts, now in the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, and from the records of the Honourable the Irish Society of London. The Ellis manuscripts relate to the diocese of Derry and include documents connected with disputes between the bishop and the Irish Society over lands near the city and fishing rights in the Foyle and Bann. The Irish Society’s records present a picture of the society’s management of its Ulster estate and contain copies of many public records of which the originals have been lost. The whole collection illustrates in unusual detail the administration and the social and economic history of the region covered by the bishopric of Derry.
