Festival of History — public lecture

The Irish Manuscripts Commission are delighted to present, as part of the Dublin Festival of History 2025:

Doing business in Ireland 1711-1860

a public lecture

Have you ever wondered how enterprises like the Gresham Hotel or Beamish and Crawford began?

Established in 1707 the Registry of Deeds aimed to prevent forgery and fraud in land transactions. In time it became the place of record for Business Partnerships intended to stimulate Ireland’s economy. From fisheries to lottery offices, glove makers to pawnbrokers, these partnerships encompassed a dazzling array of crafts and enterprises. Together the Irish Manuscripts Commission, Tailte Éireann and the Virtual Record Treasury of Ireland have brought the origins of Irish businesses, both past and present, back into public view.

To be held at 45 Merrion Square on Saturday 4 October from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This event is free. Booking is not required but capacity is limited and places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
