Members
The Chair and members of the Commission are appointed by the Minister for Tourism, Culture and Sports. The current minister is Mary Hanafin, TD. Each member
is appointed for an initial term of five years and the Commission's membership is representative of those
engaged in historical scholarship and cognate disciplines in the universities of Ireland.
The Directors of both the National Library of Ireland and the National Archives of Ireland
are also appointed to serve as members of IMC, as is the Director of the Public Record Office
of Northern Ireland (PRONI).
Two members of the Irish Manuscripts Commission sit on the board of the National Archives Advisory Council.
The Editorial and Publications Committee is a standing committee which reviews publication
proposals received by IMC. Following various reviews and readings, it makes recommendations on
proposals to the Commission.
