'Flight from the snipe grass':

Production Company: RTÉ

Producer: Brendan O hEithir/Peter Feeney

A documentary based around newsreel footage of County Mayo in the 1950s. Through the 1950s Patrick Gilmore had shot and screened footage of local events such as football matches and communions. At the end of the film Ó hEithir says, 'With hindsight we know that free second level education would come, that industry would be fostered and emigration would slow down, that television would bring sex to Ireland. It is chastening to remember that at the time the future did not look like that at all'.
