Description

Correspondence of the Green family of Ballydaniel, County Cork and Callan, County Kilkenny.
Section A (material relating to Benjamin Green, 1761-1825) includes the will, dated 15 March 1761, of Denis Shea, Ballylarkin, County Kilkenny, appointing a guardian for his daughter, inheritor of the bulk of his property, and manager for the estate until her coming of age (P2/A/1)
Request for money from Ann Murphy to John Greene, and a letter from John Green to Ann Murphy warning her to be more discreet, January 1825, (P2/A/24-25).

Sections B and C (material relating mainly to John Green (I), 1828-61 and to John Greene (II), 1861-1868) contain a number of letters from, to and about female members of the Greene family and other women relating to business and family matters. For example, a letter from Catherine Greene, Burgery to her father, John Green, refers to division of lands at Ballylarkin by him and her aunt, Lucretia Green, 5 October 1845, (P2/B/24)
Letter from Hannora Whelan to John Greene requests payment of a longstanding debt, 23 November 1859, (P2/B/61).

Section D (42 items) contains material relating to Catherine Greene, wife of John Greene II, Ballylarkin, 1872-1893. It includes the will, 9 December 1869, of John Green, in which he leaves his estate to his wife, Catherine, in trust for their six children (P2/D/2), letters, mainly dealing with personal and family matters, and press cuttings.

Section E (material relating to John Greene III and to his wife, Bridie (nee Norris), Burgery, Dungarven, 1895-1946) includes several letters from relatives and others to Bridie Greene relating to family matters, with references to contemporary political events.

Section F (letters from John Dillon to John Greene III, 1894-1924) includes a letter (?1924) from Mrs Smyth, daughter of John Dillon, to Mrs Greene, thanking her for letting her see her father's letters to John Greene (P2/F/10).
