Description

This is the earliest record of the confraternity, beginning with male membership only. Indeed one meeting is addressed to the President and Gentlemen of the Christian Doctrine Society of St Paul of the Cross. References to medals, ribbons and expected attendance at the Blessed Sacrament.

Monthly meeting usually held in school rooms, also in the Chapel and Retreat.
'In consequence of the prevalence of Small Pox in Harold's Cross the children were not in attendance for 6 or 7 weeks past, but near to the end of last month they were again brought together..' June 1872. They ran a Sunday School - catechism class. Women probably taught in this class, but were not on the committee.
