Includes correspondence on personal matters to William Cowan while serving with the Royal Enniskillen Fusiliers in Ireland and South Africa, 1896-1902, from Annie Nolan, Maria Hughes, 'Sis' (urging him not to forget 'this old mot'), and from Emily Dunne, sending shamrock; also letter to Mrs Sara McGlade on the rescue of her son by W. Cowan, and from 'May' to Alice Cowan relating to family and friends; correspondence on Salvation Army and religious topics includes letters to W. Cowan from Mrs Bessie Sherman Ashton, Vanguard Mission, Gujirat, India and Jessie McEwan, Cape Town.

Papers of Seumas McGowan include letter from Pauline Moran, Canada, commenting on the 'dreadful talk of Home Rule', and cards in memory of Alice Shipp and Eliza Doubleday.
The collection also includes letters, postcards and notes (1973-1974) from Andree Sheehy Skeffington to Frederick Cowan discussing the development of the Labour Party and her husband's involvement; also comments on article by Cowan; also letters to Cowan from Sheila Greene on articles for the Labour Party paper, The Irish People, and letter from Maire Bhreathnach on oil storage.
