Description

'Turkana':

Production Company: Radharc

A Radharc film about missionary work in Turkana, a desert region in Africa, whose inhabitants, a nomadic tribe, experience famine as part of their daily existence. In 1961 the Medical Missionaries of Mary built a convent at Lorugumu in the heart of the desert to assist in the distribution of famine relief. They have continued to work there and, in order to cover the huge distances between scattered settlements, they have a plane of their own which they fly themselves. This film won an award at the Monte Carlo UNDA Film Festival in 1966.
