Description

At the time the original Directory was compiled, the collections included sound recordings - held on compact disc and cassette - in the Centre include a number of works or performances by women:

Among these are the composers:

Mary MacAuliffe's 'Song of the Orphan Child', 1996, performed by Aisling and Roisin Dexter and the choir of St Patrick's Cathedral, Dublin

Joan Trimble of Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, works include 'Sonatine', 1940, and 'Blind Raftery', an opera. The Contemporary Music Centre have works and recordings of conversations with her on tape.

Rhoda Sinclair Coghill, wrote the music for 'Padraic Colum's Songs', 1926, and 'Songs by AE' (George Russell) among other works.

Performers including Concorde, the contemporary music ensemble founded in 1976 by Jane O'Leary.

They try to include a work by a female composer in every programme.
Fionnuala (violin) and Una Hunt (piano), Belfast sisters: performances of Irish composers of the last two centuries.

CommentThe CMC library contains the only specialist collection of music by modern Irish composers. It also comprises a sound archive, a sound studio and a collection of information materials from concert programmes and biographical data to specialist periodicals and books. The CMC also holds a reference library.
